I remember my first Barbie Doll, in fact, I remember when Barbie was first introduced to the public and available for sale. How I wish I had that Barbie now, as they are wonderful collectors items! My Barbie was an early Barbie, though perhaps not one of the first. It had red hair, a bouffant hair style, and the classic perfect Barbie figure.
Along with the Barbie, I had a “closet” to store her cloths and belongings. I remember putting her tiny cloths on those little plastic hangers and hanging them in the closet. And storing her very tiny high heel shoes.

Barbie first appeared in stores in the late 1950′s, she was named after the daughter of her creator, Ruth Handler. I do remember a bit of talk about her womanly figure as a girl, but never thought much of it. She was simply a popular doll that all young girls had, it seemed, and enjoyed.
Shortly after Barbie was on the market, it was decided she needed a boyfriend, enter Ken. I never did have a Ken doll. In fact my interest in Barbie lasted only for a season, as I was not much for playing with dolls, but the memories still remain.
Later other copy-cat fashion dolls came on the market. Pattern companies even began to make patterns for the tiny cloths that these dolls wore. Collectors still seek out fashion doll patterns and enjoy making cloths for the fashion dolls they collect.
