Voting in Presidential Elections

I was just posting to my Married to Politics blog, and started thinking about what I remember about Presidential elections, primaries, caucuses, etc., in my family. Even though our family was known for some pretty intellectual conversation, I don’t remember a lot of talk about politics. Maybe I didn’t care enough to remember. I do know that my parents always voted Republican, they were just as much “die hard Republicans” as my husband’s parents were “die hard Democrats“. I started voting when I was voting age, and basicly voted for whoever my parents were voting for, not because I was voting blindly…there was a little too much rebellion in me at that time to do that, but because I agreed with the principals and views, as far as I was able to understand them. Those were difficult times in our Nation…but no less difficult than they are today.

  1. My family were republicans too and around the age of ten, I got a little metal elephant pin which I proudly wore because my Dad gave it to me.

I knew it had something to do with politics, but I wasn’t too sure what “politics” was…. you know, I’m still not too sure, lol!!!

  2. I, too, voted the way my parents voted because I trusted their judgement and believed they were always right in their decision-making. Once I became a journalist, I started to see the world differently. People really need to study the history of the Democratic and Republican parties to understand what they represented from the beginning.

Sadly, the media has given us a distorted view of politics.

  3. I am praying for someone worth voting for to run! I don’t care if they are Republican, Democrat, or Independant…I am looking for someone with morals, principals, has more than there private interests at heart, and who will represent the people, be for the people, and of the people. So far, I haven’t seen anyone campaigning like that. I fear for the future of our country at this point.

  4. Claudia, I think you should do a poll to see how many people voted the way their parents did versus voting the opposite.

You see, my mom was a liberal and because I was SOOOOOO rebellious, I voted the opposite!

Now I vote for the person based on what my instincts tell me. I have only been disappointed in the results twice in 35 years!

    Have a great day,
